NICA/REDWOOD HIGH SCHOOL TEAM POLICIES & RIDER EXPECTATIONS
Rider Expectations
We expect riders to attend at least two practices per week; consistent attendance builds skills, safety, and team spirit. Racing is encouraged but not required. Students can choose whether they want to race or not. We encourage riders to try racing as it is a challenging yet rewarding experience supported by coaches and cheering teammates.
TeamSnap is the app we use to share schedules, rosters, and messages so everyone stays organized and connected throughout the season. RSVP for all events by marking your availability!
Team Policies
You are required to wear your helmet at all times when on a bike (even if just one leg is over the bike frame, or you are in the parking lot).
You must let the coaches know as soon as possible if you are going to miss a meeting, practice or a race. Attendance will be kept regularly. Excessive unexcused absences will disqualify you from the Team. Team Snap makes this VERY easy.
You must be on time for meetings, practices, and races. Early is preferred. For each tardiness you will be required to stay late and help clean up or break down. Excessive tardiness will disqualify you from the Team.
Wear your team kit whenever possible, mandatory on race days.
Cell phone use is not permitted at team practices. They are only be used in case of an emergency.
Caffeinated food products are not allowed at races. This includes bars, drink mix, shots/Gu. And sodas. In addition, products with Creatine, Taurine and Guarana root are not allowed at races. These are league rules that are enforced.
Do not ride illegal trails. Respect other users on multi-use trails.
Equipment should be in good working order. Please do not show up for practices or for races with equipment that needs to be repaired. Practice will not be held up for one to take the time to do what should have been done before practice. Take responsibility for your equipment.
Please come prepared to each practice or race. Forgetting equipment can cause the entire group to be delayed. Failure to come prepared may disqualify you from the team
Carry 1-2 spare tubes, tire levers, pump, multi-tool, money, water, energy bars, ID with a phone number, and enough warm clothing. Dress adequately or you will be sent home.
Always ride to the right side of the road and in the bike lanes if available. Respect all traffic laws
Please listen and pay attention to your coaching staff. We have talented coaches that are volunteering a lot of their time. Respect them 100% of the time. Always, always thank the guys at the bike shop, volunteers, coaches and parents for all their help.
You are responsible for taking care of your body. This means dressing, hydrating, sleeping, and feeding yourself appropriately.
You must have a clean bike to have any work done to your bike at the bike shop. Please be polite and patient at bike shops as well.
